Dog Ashes Tattoo

Dog ashes tattoo, the ultimate memorial tattoo.

Having a Dog ashes tattoo has been in the headlines lately. Here at Bubblegum Ink, it’s us that have been making the headlines.

Some Nice tattooing, book It’s all about Treo and Treo’s Dickens medal.

We had the great honour to tattoo the ashes of Treo the Hero dog into Dave Heyhoe, his handler and super hero.  An ultimate dog ashes tattoo memorial.
Here at Bubblegum ink, we have known Dave personally both as a client and as a good friend. He returned from combat, war beaten and found solace with Treo in his wife Rachel’s arms. Treo was awarded the highest honour medal for valour by the army for his exploits in Afghanistan, saving, with Dave, multiple lives.
He slowly fitted back into civvy Street and found the time and fortune to write a book about the exploits of him and Treo in war torn Afghanistan. ‘It’s all about Treo’, is a fantastic, brutally honest book, where you will be riding a wave of emotions. The bond that Dave had with Treo was cellular, tighter than most families, so when he said that when the devastating day comes when Treo has to move on and protect people on the other side, then we would be honoured to tattoo Treo’s ashes into him.

Dave and Treo after getting out of a bog after they dived in to escape an incoming mortar shell

Treo and Dave were regular visitors to the shop and over time a great combo became good friends. So when Treo took ill, we reproached the tattoo concept. It’s a hard discussion when you know that Treo passing would devastate Dave and family. The Taliban tried everything conceivable to take out Dave and Treo, but old age holds a heavy hand and succeeded where the Taliban failed. Unfortunately Treo passed.
Gutted.

Dave looking like he’s having a tough day staying alive, Treo on the other hand looking like MR Chill !

It’s with a heavy heart, I’ll keep writing. My dogs have played with Treo multiple times, whilst me and Dave have put the world to rights. If you’ve owned dogs then you’ll understand. There is bond so tight with your dog, where hearts are attached. Dave’s best friend has four legs and to see a good friend have no chance of stopping the inevitable is wrenching. They both saved each other’s life’s as well as each other’s souls. To say I was honoured to tattoo Dave was an understatement.
We chose the place where Treo always was, both in play and in War. We got a print of Treo’s footprint from a copy Dave had given us and Dave brought the poem in.
The local paper came around on the day.
A wooden box is just a wooden box. Until, it’s got the ashes of a recognised hero in, awarded the Dickens medal of honour for Valour. Phew the start of the tattoo was a heavy time. We mixed the ashes in (see other blogs on how it’s done) and after 2 hrs. the tattoo was done. I actually believed Dave felt at ease for the first time since Treo passed. We did no more tattooing that day. Respect is an underwhelming emotion these days, but I have a great respect for Dave and Treo.

Age catching up with Treo.

A good friend has shown the ultimate respect to his best friend.
Dave and the local community are working with the council to get a monument for a fallen hero placed in Congleton. Feel free to give to the cause.
If this style of tattooing is for you, wether your respect is for a hero, a dog, cat, horse or a person then don’t hesitate to contact Bubblegum Ink, we will treat your passed loved one with the respect that is expected and you will come out with a tattoo, where your loved one will be with you always.

Body Piercing Age limits

body piercing studio

Body Piercing age limits. There isn’t one, it’s that easy. Environmental health will advise you on age limits, recommending body piercing from 12 onwards with parental consent till 16. Ears on babies come with parental consent as standard and most piercing studios will pierce baby’s ears from approx. 6 months old.
When piercing a babies ears, the body piercer will usually make the piercing slightly higher of the natural centre of the ear lobe, so that as they grow, then the piercing will naturally drop into position. For everyone else they get in most studios a standard positioned piercing.

Body piercing age limits and a Code of Ethics

Most studios that do body piercing have a code of ethics, so they self-regulate themselves. This keep them from getting screaming parent’s coming in the studio and also so that they are proving due diligence to their trade and are morally aware of the after effects of piercing as well as the initial placement of the piercing.
Here at Bubblegum Ink we have an over 16 policy unless with a parent, for most of our Body piercings. Intimate piercings are 18 and over. Not just because of the intimate nature of the piercings, do we stipulate 18 and above, but also because the body is still maturing and these particular piercings can have effect further down the line.

Here though is a word of warning.

Body piercing stoke-on-trent
A lot of studios around the UK are piercing nipples of girls at the age of 16.  Under the usual body piercing age limit.  I assume as always that the young girl nipple piercing fad, has originated from somewhere, possibly the likes of Kylie Jenner (18) but you 16 yr olds all need to stop getting your nipple pierced.
I know already a hoard of ‘cool’ girls is dispelling me as knowing nothing about piercing etc., ‘what does he know’. Me and my wife started Hedonism body piercing and ran it for 8 yrs and brought the art of body piercing to the Stoke-on-Trent area. We have been Stoke-on-Trent and Cheshire’s environmental health port of call for body piercing guidance. We helped put together the Barbers index guidance for body piercing, which is a government paper. We have personally designed a lot of the styles of body jewellery that you all wear today. My wife getting pregnant is why you all have pregnancy bars, as an example. We have personally done some of the most extreme and difficult piercings ever performed. Screwing the ball on a bar freshly pierced in the uvula at the back of the throat, is one of the highlights. We have trained multiple amounts of body piercers that you hold in high respect in the Stoke-on-Trent area and further. There’s even more but I digress, what I’m trying to get across to you is we know our stuff.

body piercing age limits

Buzz and woody contemplate the nipple craze.

So now I say again, stop getting your nipples pierced at 16. There is a body piercing age limit for a reason.  Firstly the basic side. I’m sure there not many fathers queuing up to let a complete stranger maul their young daughter’s breast. I’m sure there not many parents letting their ‘kids’ walk around topless on holiday at the tender age of 16. If you are a parent and feel that it’s okay to let some stranger piercer your 16yr old daughter’s breasts, then just ask a complete stranger. As happened in the shop today, a parent was getting advice on a piercing done wrong by some stranger who came round to her house. We gave her the advice she needed, (advice is free), then she told us that her daughter was 16. The woman next to her, a stranger, blurted out that that was disgusting and wrong in every way. As a parent myself I understand the pressure kids can give till they get what they want, but hold fast if you don’ think the above is a stupid idea, let’s have a look at the potential medical complications that this can imply and how it has the possibility of affecting your daughter’s life for a long time.
When we do a nipple piercing we slightly place the piercing in a position so the bar rest on top of the middle of the nipple, so as to not compress the discharge of milk etc. for the future, also so the jewellery doesn’t pull the nipple down and distort it. Even if the piercing tunnels after being in for a very long time, breast feeding shouldn’t be an issue. Now your daughter is still growing, she may feel that she is an adult and some are fully fledged, but it can take up to the age of 17-18 for her intimate parts to fully mature.
Now most moral studios will not do this piercing, so it will be a more money over morals body piercer who will pierce 16 yr. olds nipples. Most of these money studios will just push a needle straight through the middle of the nipple. Right through the tube that feeds milk to the future generation. So as the 16 yr. old is still maturing, she now has a very high risk that the piercing will distort the final growth of the nipple and close up or partially impair the nipple. Closed up or impaired nipples will cause a major amount of problems with breast feeding. Even if the piercing was placed where a structured 18 yr. old and onwards nipple is, the weight on the un formed 16 yr. olds nipple structure will compress the nipple internals and form in a distorted way.
She may be 16 now, but the very parents who took her for her ‘cool’ nipple piercing will be scratching their heads as to why their new grandson is not getting the proper feeding off mum, remember parents, breast is best for your new grandchild and even though your daughter took the nipple piercing out years ago, the effects of it will be there to stay.  Some body piercing age limits are for a reason.
It’s this easy, if you are 16 and contemplating having your nipples pierced, don’t. Some fashionable piercings are really cool, take them out and they will never effect you, but getting your nipples pierced at 16 is both morally and medically wrong.  At 16 your intimate parts are just that, intimate.

Tattooing Ashes into clients

The ultimate memorial tattoo.

A lot of studios will frown upon it, but some studios will specialise in it. Tattoos originally were made from ash from the fire being rubbed into a pre designed wound.
Here at Bubblegum Ink we were in the press for tattooing ashes into a couple of clients after their grandfather passed away. The Times, The Daily Mirror, The Metro, The Sun and The Daily Mail all gave a lot of coverage to the designs and our ashes tattoo process.
Since then we have had a steady list of clients coming in for ashes tattoos. The true essence of a remembrance tattoo cannot be any higher than having a small part of that person with you till you too pass away.

So what does the process involve?

The cremated ashes are brought in and we take small portion of it to put in the tattoo, we select a small portion of the ashes that are in a small dust like consistency. We’ll autoclave the ashes in a vacuum autoclave. This makes sure that even though the ashes have been completely sterilized through the cremation process, the autoclaving will ensure we have a sterile product to use. The amount used usually equates to about the tip of a tea spoons worth.
Then the standard tattoo process starts. Design application etc. The difference comes with mixing the inks. Black has a much denser ash accepting pigmentation. Micro dispersed ink except the ashes best. If a thicker ink is used then the mix of the ink and the ashes is a lot more sporadic. The ashes are put in the ink and a small ink mixer is used. The vortex caused by the mixer will push the larger particles to the edge and keep mixing the more acceptable size of ashes to be mixed thoroughly in to the ink.
Our tattoo artists will make sure that they use the ink from the middle of the ink pot to make sure that the properly mixed ink is used. The tattoo process continues to the end and that’s the only difference. We are very aware that the ink that is left in the pots, still has cremated ashes left in them. So after the tattoo we will put the tip of a tissue into the ink pot. Blood will always come to the top of an ink pot, so the tissue, will, using a wick motion pull the blood onto the tissues for safe duty of care disposal by us, everything else is disposed of except the ink caps. The ink that is mixed with the ashes is put on a tissue or a tissue of the clients choice for them to take with them. The use by use of micro dispersed inks for ashes tattoos also makes the healing process a lot easier and there is a minimum amount, ( if any ) of scabbing. Big heavy inks will in most cases make big heavy scabs and seen as we have taken the attention to have the ashes put in then a scab will role reverse and pull the small ashes particles back out.
We hope this has given you a brief guide on the ashes tattoo process. We have tattooed dog ashes into clients and horse ashes as well. (If you are going to get a four legged loved on tattooed into you, always make sure you tell the place where your animal is getting cremated and they will make sure that the particles of ashes are of an appropriate size for the tattooing process.)

In Conclusion

In theory if your beloved whether two or four legged has been cremated then we can easily tattoo ashes into your tattoo design to make sure your remembrance tattoo is as beloved as possible.

This is a great achievement, winning these awards.  To be surrounded by your peers as well as another 20 odd tattoo artists as well as a huge crowd and have your work recognized as being the best on show is great and humbling.  The awards at Rats hole for tattoos is judged not by a 3 person judge system but the old school way of letting the tattoo artists and crowd decide, once they have the last 4 of each award, then the tattoo artists get to have a look over and the  they all get to vote.  A great way of doing it and also a more honest way to be recognized for your work.  tattoo artist from all over Florida and Miami come to the show to take the awards and it is sponsored by tattoo artists as well.  For Bubblegum Ink to pick to up two awards for one piece is great.

Pain free body piercing at Bubblegum Ink

Pain free body piercing can be achieved.  for some its more of a peevish feeling but for mot it should be pain free.  We have been body piercing for over 15 years and have never had an issue with using pain relief on clients and with this much time served behind us, we use the best and maximum pain relief with out causing any after affects.  There are two different styles of pain relief and it is used accordingly.

For all external pain free body piercing, we use a freeze spray.  There are various brands and styles out there on the open market, but after finding that occasionally when we started using freeze sprays, we would get runs from the liquid form freeze spray, we have over the last decade been using the freeze spray available in a aerosol.  The key to great application is to make sure you use it, just till a white frost starts to show, one fast sharp application and the area is numb for approx 30 seconds.  This is used solely for external areas.

For internal membrane skin such as tongues, inside of lips for tongue piercings, we use Xylocaine most of the time.  if you have any issues with a lidocaine anesthetic, then just inform the body piercer.  It takes a minute or so to work, but gives you a good 3-5 minutes of pain relief.  It may make you dribble a bit if your having your tongue pierced, but the effects wear off very quickly.

Just a note we use anesthetics for all body piercings free of charge and the only thing we don’t apply anesthetic for is for stud piercings.  we work on the basis that if kids can have stud piercings and laugh after, then you adults should be fine.  But hey we may put a bit of freeze spray on for little kids.

Emla

If your a bit unsure, or feel that getting a tattoo may test your pain barriers, then you can get an anesthetic from any local pharmacy called EMLA.  It costs about £3 – £4.  Follow the instructions.  the basics are this.  Apply the cream and cover the area in cling film, then tape the edges to make sure that the area is air tight.  Because this area of your skin can not breathe, then the pores open and in so letting the EMLA soak in.  Leave it on for approx 40 to 60 minutes. Make sure it is air tight, as it won’t work other wise and sounds kind of foolish, but if you have wrapped your body part up in clingfilm, make sure blood can still circulate, as other wise that numbing feeling is your arm falling off ! Don’t be fooled into thinking that leaving it on for hrs makes it even more numb.  if you leave it on for over approx three hours then it has the reverse effect and sensitizes the area and its a lot more painful.  Do tell your tattooist that you have applied it, its courtesy and nice for us to know. Also it will wear off once the area has been worked on.  Carry on down the page for another product which is great for use whilst the tattoo is being done.

Here is a more concise writeup on Emla :-

Emla Cream 5% is a local anesthetic cream that can be applied to the skin to suppress the pain of needle procedures. Its formula has been used successfully in GP surgeries and hospitals for years, as well as in the cosmetic industry.  Emla cream contains prilocaine and lidocaine, two ingredients that numb the skin. (The cream is left on the skin for at least 60 minutes to take effect). The result is one you’ll love – less pain when you have a needle procedure.

How does it work? Emla cream is a local anesthetic that can be applied to the skin to help suppress the pain of needle procedures. When Emla cream is applied to the skin, the lidocaine and prilocaine prevent pain signals passing from that area to the brain and so numb the skin. This means otherwise painful procedures can be performed without causing pain. The cream can be used to temporarily numb the surface of the skin before procedures such as injections, taking blood samples and minor skin surgery. You can apply Emla cream at home, prior to a needle involving procedure, to reduce pain and so make it less distressing for your. .Why use Emla Cream? If you hate needles your not alone. Approximately 10% of people have a real aversion to needles. We are not sure why this happens, but the physical pain of the needle may create a psychological fear of needles in the future. There are lots common reasons for needles to be used these days. These can include blood testing, blood donation, vaccinations and some minor cosmetic skin procedures. So if your looking for a less painful needle experience, Emla cream is a great way to help make sure that’s what you get. Over 230 million people worldwide have been effectively treated with Emla and it has been used successfully by hospitals & G.P. practices in the UK since 1996.

Pain free tattoo UK

Pain free tattooing at Bubble gum Ink UK

Pain free tattooing at Bubble gum Ink UK continues.  Vosacaine is a great product to keep the pain at bay.  it carries on where Emla leaves off.  If whilst getting tattooed, the area that has already been tattooed is getting painful from continual wiping or grazing o9f the artist hand, or the burning sensation from the tattoo is getting to you, then get the artist to spray Vosacaine on and it will have  near instant result.  we usually have some knocking about, but it is expensive at approx £30 a bottle on Ebay.  so sometimes we don’t carry stock, so if you want to guarantee the Pain free tattooing process continues, then buy your own personal bottle, check the product is Okay for you, then get the artist to use it on you in bundles 🙂

The makers of vosacaine make other pain releif products used in cosmetic procedures, although we believe the combination of Emla and Vosacaine, will make for a Pain free tattooing at Bubble gum Ink UK.
